Reidsville is not only a great place to call home, it’s also a great place to play and relax.  And, when it comes to recreation, there’s much to choose from in the community. From fishing on the lake to teeing off, there's an activity to get you up and moving. And check out the new 18-hole Disc Golf course at Lake Reidsville.

    Numerous golf courses, both public and private, are located in and near Reidsville.  And most people are surprised to discover how affordable a round of golf is in Rockingham County.

    For those who’d rather spend their time hunting, fishing or camping, there are several areas where outdoorsmen can get back to nature.  Lake Reidsville, managed by the city, is a 750-acre lake and recreation facility located just off Hwy 29 Business at 630 Waterworks Road.  In addition to Lake Reidsville, campgrounds are located in Stoneville and Madison.  Carolina Marina, between Madison and Stokesdale, offers access to Belews Lake. There is also plenty of river fun nearby.  The Dan River and the Smith River are located in Eden, while access to the Mayo River is found in Western Rockingham County.

    A new Reidsville Teen Center is a great after-school place for children in the fifth through the eighth grade.  It offers tutoring, computer access, video games, pool and foosball.   The center also provides programs to encourage students to make healthy and safe decisions.

    The Reidsville Parks and Recreation department operates nine neighborhood and community parks in the city.  The newest one, H.K. Griggs Park, was opened in 2001.  The parks feature picnic shelters, basketball courts, playgrounds, and some have ball fields. The Parks and Recreation department has eight lighted tennis courts, five ballfields, and access to the Community Pool at the YMCA. It also operates a fitness center at its Franklin Street location.  The Jaycee Park Trail, a 1.1-mile walking trail, was opened in 2001.  It is the first of five greenways proposed for Reidsville.  Another walking trail, the Chinqua-Penn Trail, exists at the Upper Piedmont Research Station, north of Reidsville.

    The YMCA offers the community a variety of fitness and wellness programs.  Both the YMCA and the Parks and Recreation department provide sports programs for youth.  The YMCA operates after-school child care programs at several elementary schools in the city.  The Reidsville community has a number of private fitness clubs.  Private swim and tennis clubs in the community are also another avenue for recreation.  The Elks Lodge #1723 and the Reidsville Swim Club are both membership organizations.  Pennrose Park Country Club has many amenities including a golf course, a swimming pool, tennis courts and a large clubhouse that offers elegant dining and does catered events.

    The Betsy-Jeff 4-H Center offers a host of programs for people of all ages.  In the summertime, the center operates a 4-H camp for children and youth.  Canoeing, swimming and hiking are a few of the activities provided.
Horseback riding is popular in the county.  Several riding and boarding stables operate in the Reidsville vicinity.  Horseback riding is a wonderful way to experience the beauty of the area.

    Visitors to the area will find an assortment of overnight accommodations, everything from luxury motels to quaint bed and breakfast inns.

ATTRACTIONS

    Reidsville has earned a reputation for the cluster of antique shops located in Antique Alley.  Each year, the Reidsville Downtown Corporation sponsors the Downtown and Antique Alley Street Festival.   The festival is a great way to sample the many regional delights and take in what the antique dealers and artisans have to offer.

    Reidsville is also home to many historical landmarks.  The last home of Governor David S. Reid, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is occupied by the Reidsville Chamber of Commerce.  The 1881 Victorian structure is available for group tours.  

    Visitors can enjoy taking a walking tour of the historic district.   Maps are available at the Reidsville Chamber of Commerce.  Several times a year, the Rockingham County Theatre Guild stages some wonderful and entertaining performances.
